On 09/26/13 a Deputy observed a vehicle pull into the Citgo parking lot on East 5th St. in Metropolis. The vehicle struck a pole located near the gas pumps. The Deputy went to speak with the driver of the vehicle about the damage. The vehicle fled the parking lot, attempting to elude the Deputy. A short time later the Deputy located the vehicle hiding behind Holt's recycling. The Deputy made contact with 34 year old Eric Sutton. Sutton was charged with DUI, Fleeing & Eluding Police and illegal Transportation of Alcohol.
On 09/23/13 a Homeowner in the 1400 block of Dornbush Rd. reported that someone entered his garage and stole several pieces of copper. This is the second report of stolen copper from Dornbush Rd. in the last 2 months. If you have any information regarding Copper Theft please leave a TIP on our TIPS line. On 09/19/13 a Deputy observed 24 year old Jeremy Lynch of Metropolis. Lynch was wanted on a Massac County Warrant for Failure to Appear on an original Domestic Battery charge. Deputies had been looking for Lynch when he ran from a Deputy the previous week. Jeremy Lynch was arrested and placed in the Massac County Detention Center.
On 09/16/13 a Deputy made a traffic stop at the intersection of US HWY 45 and I24. The Deputy detected an odor of Cannabis coming from the vehicle. After conducting a search, the Deputy located suspected cannabis. 21 year old Blake Lynch of Metropolis was charged with Possession of Cannabis less than 30 grams.
On 09/17/13 Deputies were called to a residence in the 8100 block of Unity School Rd. for a Domestic Dispute. Deputies were told that 42 year old David Hausman had been in an argument with family members. During the dispute, it is alleged that Hausman fired a pistol into the air. Hausman fled the residence on foot. Deputies, along with Officers from the Metropolis Police Department and the Brookport Police Department along with the Illinois State Police, set up a perimeter and began a search for Hausman. After 2 hours, Hausman appeared and surrendered without incident. Hausman was charged with Felony Disorderly Conduct. No gun was recovered.
MAN ATTEMPTS TO FOOL BREATHALYZER WITH ALCOPAL PILL
On 09/19/13 Robert Butler, 61 of Metropolis, was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of Unity School Rd. and Mt. Sterling Rd. Butler showed signs of being under the Influence. A preliminary breath test showed mixed results. The Sheriff's Department recently became aware of a pill called Alcopal that distorts the results of breath tests that is being illegally sold in Massac County. Butler was taken for Blood and Urine testing. Butler was charged with DUI and released. The Alcopal pill does temporarily distort the results of breath tests but does not distort blood and urine. Deputies have been trained on how to recognize the signs of use of the Alcopal pill. On 09/21/13 Deputies served a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of West 3rd St. in Metropolis. During the search, Deputies uncovered approximately 600 grams of Cannabis along with several hundred dollars in cash believed to be from the proceeds of Drug Sales. Arrested was 26 year old Brandon Watson, A.K.A. "Dub", of Metropolis.
On 09/11/13 a Deputy was assisting a Brookport Police Officer with a Domestic Dispute between 2 sisters. The Brookport Officer had charged 23 year old Tamara Jones of Brookport with Assault. The Deputy was then informed of another Domestic Dispute that had occurred on 09/07/13 between the 2 sisters leading to injuries to the victim. The Deputy conducted an investigation and was able to determine that a physical confrontation had occurred between the 2 sisters on 09/07/13 that caused physical injuries to the victim. The Deputy charged Tamara Jones with Domestic Battery.
On 09/15/13 Deputies were called to a residence in the 7700 block of Unionville Rd. for a Domestic Dispute. Deputies were told that there was a physical altercation between a father and son over a missing bag of Cannabis. As a result of the report, Cody O. Smith, 21, was arrested for Domestic Battery.
On 09/12/13 Deputies were notified by a Massac County Farmer that one of his farm trucks had been stolen. A resident in the Orchard Rd. area had observed the vehicle left near his residence. Deputies conducted an investigation and were able to determine that 2 juveniles had been seen in the area of the stolen truck. The Deputy tracked down the 2 juveniles and was able to determine that they had taken the truck without permission. The 2 juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were released to their parents pending a court summons. The truck had significant damage.
