It was determined that a 3 year old male had left the residence heading in an unknown direction. A search of the area was quickly started. Members of the Massac County Fire Department, Metropolis Police Department, Illinois Conservation Police and the Illinois State Police joined the search. The Massac County Emergency Management Drone was utilized in searching the area. Many volunteers arrived and began searching. At 1:41 P.M. a volunteer located the missing child about ¼ mile from the residence. The child was uninjured and in good health. As a precaution, the child was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. It was determined that the child was following his dog into a wooded area and became lost. More than 100 people were involved in the search and recovery of the child.

It is believed that the Burglary occurred sometime between Wednesday November 17, 2021, and Friday November 19, 2021. Someone forcefully entered a residence and stole many items. Items stolen include guns, swords, tools, and US Currency. Election results will be held in the Small Courtroom. Due to the Coronavirus Outbreak, numbers of attendance will be closely monitored. Governor Pritzker has given guidance of no more than 50 people. We are asking that candidates and their supporters keep attendance numbers to a minimum. If attendance numbers exceed the Governor's guidance, we will be forced to close the courthouse off to additional attendants. The room where the results are held is small and cannot adhere to the six foot guideline for distancing. Election results will be live streamed on the Metropolis Planet's Facebook page.

On 2/29/20 at around 1:00 A.M. a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a bicyclist in the area of 9th and Ferry Street in Metropolis. The bicyclist was identified as 34 year old Mark Edwards of Metropolis. Edwards had an outstanding warrant out of Massac County for Failure to Appear in court. During the arrest, the Deputy located a crystal substance believed to be Methamphetamine. The Deputy also located a liquid substance believed to be Methamphetamine. Edwards was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

Edwards was arrested without incident

On 02/25/20 a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle on US HWY 45 at Devers Rd. The Deputy recognized a passenger in the vehicle as Ashley Jenkins, 35 of Brookport. The Deputy was aware that Jenkins had an outstanding warrant out of McCracken County, KY. Jenkins was taken into custody. The Deputy located a syringe loaded with what appeared to be methamphetamine. The Deputy also located a baggy containing suspected methamphetamine. Ashley Jenkins was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

Jenkins was arrested without incident.

The Deputy observed a male on a bicycle and attempted to stop him. The bicyclist attempted to elude the Deputy on the bicycle. The male abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the male was apprehended on Walter Drive. The male, at first, gave a false name to Deputies. The male was quickly recognized as 34 year old Walter Bauer of Metropolis. It was learned that Bauer had a warrant out of Massac County for Theft. It was also learned that Bauer was a convicted Felon. A Deputy searched Bauer's pockets and located ammunition and a used Hypodermic Syringe. Bauer was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. Picture

<![CDATA[Two Arrested on Meth Charges Following Traffic Stop]]>Mon, 09 Dec 2019 16:07:48 GMThttp://massacsheriffsdept.com/sheriffs-report/two-arrested-on-meth-charges-following-traffic-stopOn December 7, 2019 at around 4:00 A.M. a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Ferry St. in Metropolis. The driver of the vehicle, 35 year old Xavier Smith of Paducah, had an active Massac County Warrant and a Suspended driver's license. Xavier Smith was taken into custody. The passenger in the vehicle, 50 year old Jena Martin of Metropolis, was found to be in possession of a Meth smoking devise. During a search of the vehicle, over 18 grams of Meth was found along with a digital scale and over $400 believed to be funds from the sale of Meth. Both Smith and Martin were arrested without incident and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

<![CDATA[Two Juveniles Taken Into Custody Following Burglary Call]]>Fri, 06 Dec 2019 14:25:11 GMThttp://massacsheriffsdept.com/sheriffs-report/two-juveniles-taken-into-custody-following-burglary-callOn December 3, 2019 at around 4:00 A.M. a call received of a possible Burglary in progress at a residence in the 2200 block of Pell Rd. Deputies arrived shortly after and located two individuals inside the residence. The two individuals were taken into custody without incident. The residence had been ransacked. The two individuals taken into custody were a 17 year old male and a 16 year old male. The two male juveniles were detained and charged with Residential Burglary and Possession of Cannabis over 100 grams. After conducting an investigation, Deputies executed a search warrant at the residence. Deputies recovered a firearm, Meth and more than 500 grams of cannabis. The investigation continues and further charges are possible.

<![CDATA[Disturbance Call Leads to Weapons Arrests]]>Wed, 23 Oct 2019 19:07:42 GMThttp://massacsheriffsdept.com/sheriffs-report/disturbance-call-leads-to-weapons-arrestsOn 10/22/19 Deputies were called to the area of US HWY 45 North and Liberty Ridge Rd. for a disturbance involving a gun being fired. When Deputies arrived on scene, they discovered several individuals in the area. One individual was holding a shotgun. Other individuals fled the area on foot. After the scene was secured, Deputies were told that one of the individuals on scene had been robbed of money, causing the disturbance. Deputies were also told that shots had been fired by someone who had fled on foot. Deputies searched the area and found a firearm that appeared to have been recently fired. The area was searched for the individuals that had fled on foot. Metropolis Police K9 Jacobo assisted in the search. Three individuals were located at a nearby residence that Deputies believed had fled on foot. Deputies recovered two firearms, a bat and ammunition believed to have been involved in the incident. After completing interviews and collecting evidence, Deputies arrested 4 individuals involved.
