On 03/21/14 Deputies went to a residence in the 1000 block of East 2nd St. looking for 40 year old Leonard M. Greenfield. Greenfield had an active Kentucky Department of Corrections Warrant. Once at the residence, Deputies located Greenfield. Greenfield fled out a window of the residence and led Deputies on a short foot chase. Greenfield was captured a block into the foot chase. Greenfield was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Kentucky. On 03/20/14 a suspicious bag was located near the train tracks in the area of West 9th St. in Metropolis. Inside the bag, Investigators located an active Meth Lab. Wet filter paper located inside the bag showed that the lab was a few hours old. A witness said they saw a white male earlier in the evening with a similar bag in the area. Investigators are seeking any information from anyone with information regarding the discarded Meth Lab. Illinois State Police say March 30 marks the 30th anniversary of the murder of 26-year-old Lisa Ann Carnes of Karnak, Illinois. They say the murder remains unsolved.According to ISP, Carnes’ body was found in a field in rural Massac County near Macedonia Church Road and U. S. Highway 45. To date, hundreds of leads have been followed, and state police special agents continue to investigate the homicide. On 03/06/14 a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle just outside of Brookport for a traffic violation. The driver gave a name that tuned out to be false. After discovering that the driver was actually 28 year old Raymond M. Stangel of Paducah, the Deputy also discovered that Stangel did not have a driver's license. Raymond Stangel was arrested. During a search of the vehicle, the Deputy located what is believed to be a small amount of Crystal Methamphetamine, also known as "Ice". Stangel was charged with No Valid Driver's License, Obstructing Justice, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Investigators received of drug trafficking. Information was obtained of a drug sale in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store located on east 8th St. in Metropolis. Undercover Investigators began surveillance on the parking lot. Investigators witnessed what they believed to be a drug sale. Deputies stopped the vehicle and arrested 19 year old Cody Reed of Metropolis. Deputies located approximately 29 grams of Cannabis and currency used to make the drug sale. Cody Reed was charged with Delivery of Cannabis and was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Investigators seized currency and the vehicle belonging to Cody Reed. |
