Joppa High School Threat Arrest

​On Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:59pm, a 911 call was placed to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office from the Joppa High School stating that a student had made a threat of shooting up the school.
 
Massac County deputies responded to the Joppa High School within seven minutes of receiving the call
 
Upon arrival at the school deputies were advised that the student in question was now in the principal’s office. The deputies were advised of the comments that the student had made and his actions immediately after making the comment.
 
Deputies placed the student into custody and transported him to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office. The Massac County Sheriff’s Office discussed the detention with the Massac County States Attorney and the Massac County Probation Department and it was decided to house the juvenile at a Regional Juvenile Detention Center for the night or until he could go before a Judge.
 
During a search of the school no weapon was found.

Wanted Man Captured after Struggle

On 01/18/18 Deputies with the Massac County Sheriff's Office and Officers with the Brookport Police Department went to a residence in the 7900 block of Unionville Rd. to serve an arrest warrant on 46 year Old Jeffery Anderson of Brookport. Anderson was wanted for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Burglary and Theft out of Massac County. When Anderson was located, he attempted to flee out of a window. Anderson refused to comply with Deputies commands. A taser was deployed, striking Anderson. Anderson continued to struggle with Deputies and Officers. Anderson was eventually taken into custody. A Deputy suffered an injury to his knee during the struggle with Anderson. Anderson was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center on the original warrant. Further charges are expected as a result of Anderson fleeing from Deputies and causing the injury to a Deputy.

On 09/30/17 Deputies recovered several tools during an unrelated arrests. The Massac County Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying the owner of these tools. On 08/22/17 a motorcycle was stolen from the 1500 block of Grand Chain Rd. The motorcycle is a 2003 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic and is black & silver in color. The motorcycle was stolen from the owners yard. ​

The 2007 Nissan Altima was located. A suspect has been identified and charges pending.

On 08/31/17 it was reported that a vehicle had been stolen from the owner, who resides in Joppa. The owner had loaned the vehicle to someone who never brought the vehicle back. To this date, the vehicle has not been returned and is considered stolen. The person who borrowed the vehicle has charges pending for the vehicle. The vehicle is a 2007 Nissan Altima and is white in color. It has Illinois license plate E460662.

On 09/03/17 an ATV was stolen from the 7900 block of Unionville Rd. The ATV was in the homeowners yard. The ATV is a 2006 Honda Fourtrax Foreman 4X4 TRX 500 FM. It is red in color.

On 09/05/17 a motorcycle was stolen from the 5700 block of Marion Rd. The homeowner came home to find his motorcycle missing from a garage. The motorcycle is a 2016 Harley Davidson FXSB Softail Breakout. It is pearl white in color.

On 09/08/17 an ATV was stolen from the yard of a residence in the 6400 block of US Hwy 45 South. The ATV is a 2004 Kawasaki KFX 400 and is green in color.

On 09/117/17 a Deputy located the 2017 Honda Accord on a parking lot in Metropolis. The vehicle had been left unoccupied. Deputies have identified a suspect and charges are pending.

On 09/10/17 a vehicle was reported stolen from the 3200 block of Massac Creek Rd. The homeowner woke up to discover the vehicle missing from the garage. The vehicle is a 2017 Honda Accord and is black in color. It has Illinois registration Q939411.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about a Theft of a Motorcycle. On 09/05/17 at around 10:00 P.M. Deputies responded to the 5700 block of Marion Rd. regarding a stolen motorcycle. The motorcycle is a 2016 Harley Davidson FXSB Soft Tail Breakout. It is pearl white in color. The motorcycle was stolen from a locked garage on 09/05/17 between 7:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. Joshua Wierman Taken into Custody

Joshua Wierman had been sought regarding extensive damage done to a home in the Lakewood Drive subdivision in Massac County. Numerous tips were received regarding Wierman. Wierman was charged with Criminal Damage to Property(felony) in Massac County Circuit Court. The Massac County Sheriff's Office coordinated with the Paducah Police Department and were able to take Joshua Wierman into custody, without incident. Wierman is being lodged in the McCracken County Jail waiting extradition to Massac County.

Man Wanted for Questioning by Massac Sheriff's Office

On 08/29/17 Deputies were called to the Lakeview Drive Subdivision at 10:22 P.M. Reports from residents were that they could hear glass breaking in the area. A homeowner was arriving at their residence when they discovered a red Chevrolet S10 leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The homeowner discovered several windows busted out of the home. Deputies checked the residence and obtained evidence that led them to 25 year old Joshua R. Wierman. Wierman is an acquaintance of the homeowner. Wierman is white male, 6'0" and weighs 210 lbs. Wierman previously lived in Minnesota, but has been in the Metropolis and Paducah area recently. Wierman had been driving an unknown year red Chevrolet S10 with no license plate. Further arrests are anticipated:

The investigations leading to the arrests were conducted by ISP/SIDTF. The Ullin Office of the ISP/SIDTF is comprised of membership from the Massac County Sheriff's Office, The Massac County States Attorneys Office, Metropolis Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, Hardin County States Attorneys Office and the Illinois State Police. The cases are being prosecuted by Massac County States Attorney Patrick Windhorst.

​The public is reminded that, under law, a defendant is presumed innocent of a charge until proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, to the satisfaction of a jury.

Shots fired at Brookport Residence

On 05/18/17 the Massac County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on West 5th St. in Brookport. Deputies responded and discovered a vehicle and a mobile home with several bullet holes. Shell casings were discovered near the residence. Deputies obtained video from a surveillance system. The video shows 3 subjects approach the residence. It is believed that two of the subjects were caring automatic rifles. In the video you can see the individuals firing at the residence as they run away. It should be noted that the time on the video is off and the actual time would be around 2 A.M. Deputies have been investigating since 05/18/17 and have developed possible suspects. The Massac County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Brookport Police Department and the Illinois State Police.

Wanted Man Runs After New Story Airs, Stolen Property Recovered

On 05/06/17 an investigation began when it was reported that a chainsaw and a professional paint sprayer was stolen from a property in the 3000 block of Illinois 145 Rd. On 05/09/17 WPSD aired a segment on Massac's Most Wanted. Jeff Anderson was featured as one of Massac's Most Wanted. Shortly after the segment aired, the Massac County Sheriff's Office received a tip that Anderson was at a residence on Jonesboro Rd. Deputies arrived at the residence and learned that Anderson had saw the segment and left the residence. Deputies searched the residence and located the stolen chainsaw and professional paint sprayer, along with other items beleived to be stolen. Deputies recovered evidence they beleived linked Anderson to the theft on 05/06/17. Additional charges on Jeff Anderson are expected. 

Deputies are also investigating a theft of an 18 foot flatbed trailer that occurred on 05/02/17 in the 1300 block of Country Club Rd., which is near where the chainsaw and paint sprayer were stolen. The trailer has white rims along with a wooden floor and wooden retaining walls. It is a 2016 Southern Express 18 foot trailer.
